Digicel pumps $100,000 into SOTT National Games
The Special Olympics of T&T (SOTT), which will host its 2013 National Games at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo, from April 20 to 21, has received assistance to the tune of $100,000 from Digicel.
On Tuesday, SOTT chairperson Norma James, along with 2011 Special Olympics equestrian gold and silver medallist Giselle Benjamin visited Digicel’s head office where they presented Digicel CEO John Delves with a token from the World Winter Games, held earlier this year.
Only a floor hockey team took part in the Games, which was held in South Korea, but they managed to come away with a bronze medal in Division One. In turn, Delves presented the SOTT with a dummy cheque in support of the upcoming Games.
Digicel has previously sponsored SOTT teams at various international events and has made donations of equipment for use by the athletes. SOTT caters for 700 special athletes in 12 sporting disciplines.
