Jamaican rider Marloe Rodman defended his title as he steered to a top place finish in the main event, the International and Invitational 20 Laps event on the opening day of the 2013 Southern Games, in Marabella, on Thursday night.

Rodman edged the TTCF Road League leader Phillip Clarke of Barbados, who finished second, while England’s Adam Doggleby trailed in third. Josua Alexander and Varun Maharajh best represented T&T with a fourth- and sixth-placed finish, respectively.

Rodman, who also won the main event last year, was also in top shape in the four-lap version of the race when he took the runner-up spot behind American Stephan Cossette. Again Doggleby ended in third. Rudy Ashton, making a return to the T&T team finished in a credible fourth position.

Action in the Southern Games will continue tonight (Saturday) with the venue switched to Guaracara Park, Point-a-Pierre. The event will conclude tomorrow. Races will begin at 2 pm on both days.
