Yannic Cariah had a wonderful all round contribution.

National all rounder Yannic Cariah had wonderful game scoring a century and taking three wickets but his efforts were in vain as PowerGen clipped Bamboo Sports by ten runs to book a place in the finals of the T&T Cricket Board (TTBC) 50 overs tournament.

Playing in front of a good sized crowd at Kennedy Park in Diamond Village, San Fernando, Cariah advertised his growth as a genuine all rounder by taking 5/51 to reduce PowerGen to 267 for seven in their 50 overs.

He then returned with the willow to smash 105 but his team still fell ten runs short at the end—reaching 257 for eight off their 50 overs.

Chasing 268 after PowerGen got half centuries from Evin Lewis and Gregory Mahabir, the underdogs made a good start through Samuel Felix and the Guyanese Krishna Arjune.

They posted 36 without alarm until Kavesh Kantasingh produced a beauty to have Arjoon caught behind for 21 off 35 balls.

From that point Bamboo failed to build decent partnerships and at 115 for four the writing was on the wall. However. the left handed Cariah had other ideas.

He and Terrence Hinds brought there team back into the match with intelligent batting. I

nitially playing carefully, the dup started to blossom and Cariah thrilled the onlookers with his off-driving.

They combined for a parntership of 129 for the fifth wicket that brought Bamboo right back into the match. Cariah went on to score 105 off 97 balls with eight fours and two sixes, while Hinds fell for 57 off 49 balls with seven fours and a six.

Both batsmen were dismissed by PowerGen’s best bowler on the night, Sherwin Ganga. The right arm offspinner ended with 3/43, as the chase fizzled out after the fall of Cariah and Hinds.

Earlier, national player Evin Lewis spanked 82 at the top of the order to lead the PowerGen effort. After the fall of Nicholas Sookdeosingh (7) and Ganga (24), the left handed Lewis was joined by another left hander in skipper Gregory Mahabir and they added 49 runs for the third wicket.

Lewis was finally dimissed by Cariah for 82 scored off 114 balls with sixe fours and two sixes. Mahabir who has been in tremendous form this season, got 70 off 64 balls with eight fours.
