Leaders Alescon Comets will come up against second-placed Moosai Sports, today, when round five matches in the T&T Cricket Board Premiership tournament bowls off at various venues throughout the country.

Comets have enjoyed one of their better seasons in recent times, winning all four matches to date and have gathered 100 points from their four matches. They will start as favourites when they face Moosai. The eastern team, packed with a number of veterans in their line-up, is 22 points behind Comets and will be looking for win to go ahead of the Charlieville Boys.

Third placed and defending champions Queen’s Park, with their team packed with international stars, will make the journey to Diego Martin to tackle Merryboys Sports. The Parkites, fresh from sending Merryboys out at the semi-final stage of the Sunday League on Thursday night, will start as obvious favourites. In the Queen’s Park line-up will be Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine, Justin Guillen, Amit Jaggernauth and Adrian Barath. The main men on the Merryboys team will be Lendl Simmons, Rayad Emrit and Alcindo Holder. Queen’s Park goes into the clash with 75 points, while Merryboys have 64.

At Aranguez, PowerGen will have the services of the returning Samuel Badree, as they come up against the home team at the Aranguez Recreation ground. Badree can be the key with his international experience. National opener Evin Lewis is in form after getting 82 in the Sunday league semis. In other matches, newcomers F&E Diamond United battles Caldrac at Kennedy Park and Bamboo plays Esmeralda at Esmeralda. There will be no action for First Citizens Clarke Road this weekend as W-Connection Wanderers, who have defaulted all their matches to date, are carded to play them.

After this round, fourth-placed Clarke Road will move to 93 points as they will be gifted 24 points for the defaulted clash. All matches start at 10 am today.
