Ames struggles with 72 in final round at Copperhead

PALM HARBOUR— Trinidad and Tobago’s Stephen Ames carded a one-over 72 in the final round of the US$5.5 million Tampa Bay Championship here yesterday.

 

Starting the day at the Copperhead Course of the Innisbrook Resort just five shots off the lead, Ames endured a bogey-filled round to finish even-par 284. He eventually finished tied in 30th place with Bryce Molder, George McNeil, Ryan Palmer, Eric Compton, Jimmy Walker and Adam Scott.

 

Britain’s Kevin Streelman won the title with a gross 274, after carding a five under par 67 in yesterday’s final round.

 

Boo Weekley who enjoyed his best round yesterday with a nine under 63, was second with a gross 276 while just one shot back was Cameron Tringate whose six under yesterday, was his best round of the competition.

 

Justin Leonard, Luke Donald and Greg Chalmers tied for fourth with 278.
