The Caroni Conquerors Cricket Club got a well deserved financial injection of $20,000 from Universal Developers Company Limited.
Manuj Kanick, CEO of Universal Developers, said he was only too glad to pump some measure of financial support into a sport he so love. Kanick also called on other corporate bodies to contribute to sport development in their communities. He said "We are hearing so much complaints about crime and other untoward activities. We are seeing too much young people slip into a life of criminal activities.
On the flipside we hear the businessmen complain about crime, we must ask what are we as a community doing about it besides complaining, are we taking a proactive approach or are we just watching from the pavilion?"
He continued " The government cannot do it alone, we must take an active role in supporting initiatives that would bring our young people back to sports, back to religion, back to a productive life. When we look down the road 25 years from now, what type of society do we want to see, one where the adults of that future generation are productive citizens. Surely we don't want the opposite."
Kanick got the contract to upgrade facilities at the Conquerors Recreation Ground through SporTT. He said work commenced on January 30 and should be completed around May. The scope of works include the construction of a pavilion among other amenities.
