The Ca­roni Con­querors Crick­et Club got a well de­served fi­nan­cial in­jec­tion of $20,000 from Uni­ver­sal De­vel­op­ers Com­pa­ny Lim­it­ed.

Manuj Kan­ick, CEO of Uni­ver­sal De­vel­op­ers, said he was on­ly too glad to pump some mea­sure of fi­nan­cial sup­port in­to a sport he so love. Kan­ick al­so called on oth­er cor­po­rate bod­ies to con­tribute to sport de­vel­op­ment in their com­mu­ni­ties. He said "We are hear­ing so much com­plaints about crime and oth­er un­to­ward ac­tiv­i­ties. We are see­ing too much young peo­ple slip in­to a life of crim­i­nal ac­tiv­i­ties.

On the flip­side we hear the busi­ness­men com­plain about crime, we must ask what are we as a com­mu­ni­ty do­ing about it be­sides com­plain­ing, are we tak­ing a proac­tive ap­proach or are we just watch­ing from the pavil­ion?"

He con­tin­ued " The gov­ern­ment can­not do it alone, we must take an ac­tive role in sup­port­ing ini­tia­tives that would bring our young peo­ple back to sports, back to re­li­gion, back to a pro­duc­tive life. When we look down the road 25 years from now, what type of so­ci­ety do we want to see, one where the adults of that fu­ture gen­er­a­tion are pro­duc­tive cit­i­zens. Sure­ly we don't want the op­po­site."

Kan­ick got the con­tract to up­grade fa­cil­i­ties at the Con­querors Recre­ation Ground through SporTT. He said work com­menced on Jan­u­ary 30 and should be com­plet­ed around May. The scope of works in­clude the con­struc­tion of a pavil­ion among oth­er ameni­ties.
