Eng­land-based T&T men's hock­ey team ace, Kwand­wane Browne was among the goals as his Can­ter­bury club reg­is­tered a much need­ed win over South­gate to stay in the hunt for an Eng­land Hock­ey League Pre­mier Di­vi­sion top four league fin­ish and play-off spot on Sat­ur­day.

For Can­ter­bury, Ben All­ber­ry grabbed a 68th minute win­ner af­ter goals from Liam Fos­ter (2nd) and Browne (22nd) put them 2-1 up at half-time.The dogged South­gate scored through Sime­on Bird (21st) and John Ster­li­ni (58th) to stay with Can­ter­bury un­til All­ber­ry scored.

With the win, Can­ter­bury pushed its to­tal to 27 points, two be­hind Sur­biton and two ahead of Read­ing and East Grind­stead while Can­nock is next with 24 points.Bee­ston which sits at the top of the ta­ble with 43 points has al­ready qual­i­fied for the semi­fi­nals and crushed Brook­lands MU, 5-3; East Grind­stead edged Can­nock, 3-2, Lough­bor­ough Stu­dents bat­tled to a 6-6 draw with Read­ing and Sur­biton whipped Hamp­stead and West­min­ster, 3-1.

In the fi­nal league round on March 24, Can­ter­bury tack­les Can­nock; Sur­biton faces Brook­lands MU; Read­ing plays Bee­ston, and South­gate bat­tles East Grind­stead.
