England-based T&T men’s hockey team ace, Kwandwane Browne was among the goals as his Canterbury club registered a much needed win over Southgate to stay in the hunt for an England Hockey League Premier Division top four league finish and play-off spot on Saturday.

For Canterbury, Ben Allberry grabbed a 68th minute winner after goals from Liam Foster (2nd) and Browne (22nd) put them 2-1 up at half-time. The dogged Southgate scored through Simeon Bird (21st) and John Sterlini (58th) to stay with Canterbury until Allberry scored.

With the win, Canterbury pushed its total to 27 points, two behind Surbiton and two ahead of Reading and East Grindstead  while Cannock is next with 24 points. Beeston which sits at the top of the table with 43 points has already qualified for the semifinals and crushed Brooklands MU, 5-3; East Grindstead edged Cannock, 3-2,  Loughborough Students battled to a 6-6 draw with Reading and Surbiton whipped Hampstead and Westminster, 3-1.

In the final league round on March 24, Canterbury tackles Cannock; Surbiton faces Brooklands MU; Reading plays Beeston,  and Southgate battles East Grindstead.
