T&T's three Ju­nior Davis Cup pre-qual­i­fy­ing tour­na­ment play­ers were yes­ter­day blanked by hosts El Sal­vador in the top-eight play-off stage.

At the first knock­out phase, T&T suf­fered two loss­es in its two sin­gles match­es be­fore tak­ing to the one-match dou­bles seg­ment, which con­clud­ed af­ter press time last evening. A win in the dou­bles match would nev­er­the­less have seen T&T drop out of con­tention for a top-four spot.

Open­ing the day with a sin­gles clash, Nabeel Mo­hammed suf­fered a 6-0, 6-2 loss to Galileo Cabrales. The sec­ond sin­gles match fea­tured Elan Mur­ray-Mendez up against Atil­lo Flo­res, which the lat­ter took 6-1, 6-1.

The re­sult meant T&T would have to set­tle for one of the places be­tween fifth and eighth.

T&T was pit­ted in the play-offs af­ter fin­ish­ing sec­ond in the four-team Group B. The team opened with a 3-0 loss to Cos­ta Ri­ca on the first day. On the sec­ond day, T&T dropped the Ba­hamas 2-1, win­ning one sin­gles and the dou­ble match, be­fore fi­nal­ly tak­ing a con­vinc­ing 3-0 vic­to­ry over the US Vir­gin Is­lands on the last day of group ac­tion.
