T&T's three Junior Davis Cup pre-qualifying tournament players were yesterday blanked by hosts El Salvador in the top-eight play-off stage.
At the first knockout phase, T&T suffered two losses in its two singles matches before taking to the one-match doubles segment, which concluded after press time last evening. A win in the doubles match would nevertheless have seen T&T drop out of contention for a top-four spot.
Opening the day with a singles clash, Nabeel Mohammed suffered a 6-0, 6-2 loss to Galileo Cabrales. The second singles match featured Elan Murray-Mendez up against Atillo Flores, which the latter took 6-1, 6-1.
The result meant T&T would have to settle for one of the places between fifth and eighth.
T&T was pitted in the play-offs after finishing second in the four-team Group B. The team opened with a 3-0 loss to Costa Rica on the first day. On the second day, T&T dropped the Bahamas 2-1, winning one singles and the double match, before finally taking a convincing 3-0 victory over the US Virgin Islands on the last day of group action.
