BIG South East Port of Spain moved to within one win of retaining the winner-take-all $5,000 Men's Division title in the annual T&T Volleyball Federation Players League when they booked a spot in the final against Toco Youths at the end of the seven-team men's round-robin series on Sunday night.
Needing a win to stay in contention, SEPoS, came out on top in two straight sets against Southern United Volleyball Academy, 25-11, 25-20 to earn maximum three points and end with a 4-2 round-robin record and 12 points, two behind round-robin table toppers, Toco Youths who defaulted against UWI to end with a 5-1 mark and 14 points.
The T&T senior national women's team, the reigning five-time Caribbean champions, who used the competition as part of their preparations for the Second Round FIVB Women's World Championship Qualifiers from May 23 to 27 here in T&T against
Barbados, Anguilla and Honduras, and the Pan American Cup in Lima, Peru in June also won by default from Southern United, 25-0, 25-0 while Technocrats won over UWI, 13-25, 25-16, 15-8, as both teams also ended with 4-2 records, but with 11 and ten points to miss out on the final.
In yesterday's final, Toco Youths entered as favourites after defeating SEPoS 22-25, 25-23, 15-11 in their round-robin duel on Friday while in the final of the women's four-team series, UWI faced Technocrats, in a rematch of their round-robin clash, which the latter won in three sets. The women's champion will also walk away with a top prize of $5,000.
