The Abraham twins continued to fly the T&T flag on Wednesday when they battled their way into the semifinals of the Boys Under-18 Doubles at the ITF Junior Tennis Tournament in Barbados.
Joshua and Ty again needed three sets to advance. On Tuesday, the twins got past Bajan brothers Gavin and Matthew Hutchinson 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 in round one.
The Abraham boys were in cruise control after winning the first set 6-2. However, the pair of Alexey Aleshchev (Russia) and Geoffrey Blancaneaux (France) fought back to win the second set 6-2. In the third set, Joshua and Ty showed their stamina to win 10-7 in a tie break.
The Abrahams went on to play in the semifinals, yesterday, against the Mexican duo of Gerardo Penchyna Cardenas and Jesus Santiago Suarez Rivas.
The Mexicans went into the match full of confidence as they defeated the number-four seeded Bahamian pair of Rasheed Carey and Philip Wilbert Major in the quarterfinal 6-4, 2-6, 10-5. The results of the match were not received before press time.
Another national player in action on Wednesday was Breana Stampfli, who unfortunately came out on the losing end. Stampfli lost to American Jenna Friedel 6-7(2), 7-5, 6-1 in the girls U-18 singles quarterfinal.
