The first match for both teams got under way on Sunday, but it was a completely one-sided affair which saw Valencia trounce Vintage 108-47, in the Arima Basketball Knockout Competition 2013, at Princes Royal Park Basketball Court.
Inflicting the most damage was influential forward Fabrice Fisher who sank 30 points in Valencia's attacking surge. He was assisted by Ivan Williams and Jeffrey Saunders who scored 24 and 21 points, respectively.
For Vintage, Wayne Cupid and Kelvin Peterkin both nearly amassed their team's entire total, with 16 points a piece.
Valencia opened up the encounter with a first quarter, 40-6, blowout. Vintage then improved steadily, but was never going to trouble Valencia, as the scores showed 61-23 at the half. The third period ended 80-37 in favour of Valencia, which eventually won the match by a flattering 61-point difference.
The second match was a closer encounter between San Juan Warriors and Samaroo Village. Sean Solomon and Michael Straker scored 15 and 10 points, respectively, in a narrow 43-42 victory for the former.
San Juan took victory after leading all quarters, 15-12, 22-19, 35-34. Samaroo was best represented by Dwayne Cummings and Roger Moore, who scored 13 points each.
Two other matches were carded for last evening. Sangre Grande was set to meet Malabar from 7 pm, before La Horquetta and Arouca clashed at 8.30 pm.
Tomorrow, the remaining two teams, O'Meara and High Voltage will be in action from 7 pm. A second round match will jump off at 8.30 pm, following a draw.
The two semifinals will play on final, before the champion in determined on Sunday.
