Former national standout, Nicholas Wren scored a hat-trick as Defence Force picked up from where it left off on the opening day of the season with a 6-0 clobbering of Corona Fatima in the T&T Hockey Board Men's Championship Division.
This was in one of four matches played at the National Hockey Centre, Tacarigua, on Sunday.
For the "Teteron stickmen," Neil Lashley, another former national player fired in the opener as early as the third minute before Wren (17th) made it 2-0 while current national midfielder Marcus James added a third on the stroke of half-time.
Ten minutes into the second-half, Wren extended the lead to 4-0 while Kirth Davis made it 5-0 in the 55th before Wren completed his hat-trick with his team's sixth in the 64th for Defence Force to go top of the table ahead of defending champions Petrotrin and Notre Dame on goal-difference.
The Dames got a late double from national player, Shaquille Daniel to secure a come-from-behind, 2-1 win over Queen's Park.
The Parkites took a 1-0 lead through Shawn Lee Quay in the fifth minute and held firm until Daniel drew his team level in the 61st and then fired in the winner, seven minutes later.
On Saturday, the Oilmen flicked off their title-defence with a 4-1 drilling of Malvern led by a brace from out-of-favour national player Wayne Legerton.
Legerton scored in the eighth and 43rd minutes while national duo, Atiba Whittington (35th) and Evan Farrell (40th) added one each.
Former T&T captain and national women's team coach, Anthony Marcano got a late consolation for Malvern, six minutes from full-time.
Shandy Carib Magnolias and Maritime Harvard Checkers also began their quest to dethrone Notre Dame as Women's Championship Division title-holders with comfortable victories.
Magnolias trounced rivals Ventures 5-0 with Amie Olton, Gabby Permell, Brianna Govia and Abigail Dowden all on target as being handed a 1-0 lead via a 20th minute own goal.
And Checkers won 2-0 over Malvern with national forward Brittney Hingh on target in the 55th minute after a 47th minute own goal.
