For­mer na­tion­al stand­out, Nicholas Wren scored a hat-trick as De­fence Force picked up from where it left off on the open­ing day of the sea­son with a 6-0 clob­ber­ing of Coro­na Fa­ti­ma in the T&T Hock­ey Board Men's Cham­pi­onship Di­vi­sion.

This was in one of four match­es played at the Na­tion­al Hock­ey Cen­tre, Tacarigua, on Sun­day.

For the "Teteron stick­men," Neil Lash­ley, an­oth­er for­mer na­tion­al play­er fired in the open­er as ear­ly as the third minute be­fore Wren (17th) made it 2-0 while cur­rent na­tion­al mid­field­er Mar­cus James added a third on the stroke of half-time.

Ten min­utes in­to the sec­ond-half, Wren ex­tend­ed the lead to 4-0 while Kirth Davis made it 5-0 in the 55th be­fore Wren com­plet­ed his hat-trick with his team's sixth in the 64th for De­fence Force to go top of the ta­ble ahead of de­fend­ing cham­pi­ons Petrotrin and Notre Dame on goal-dif­fer­ence.

The Dames got a late dou­ble from na­tion­al play­er, Shaquille Daniel to se­cure a come-from-be­hind, 2-1 win over Queen's Park.

The Parkites took a 1-0 lead through Shawn Lee Quay in the fifth minute and held firm un­til Daniel drew his team lev­el in the 61st and then fired in the win­ner, sev­en min­utes lat­er.

On Sat­ur­day, the Oil­men flicked off their ti­tle-de­fence with a 4-1 drilling of Malvern led by a brace from out-of-favour na­tion­al play­er Wayne Leg­erton.

Leg­erton scored in the eighth and 43rd min­utes while na­tion­al duo, At­i­ba Whit­ting­ton (35th) and Evan Far­rell (40th) added one each.

For­mer T&T cap­tain and na­tion­al women's team coach, An­tho­ny Mar­cano got a late con­so­la­tion for Malvern, six min­utes from full-time.

Shandy Carib Mag­no­lias and Mar­itime Har­vard Check­ers al­so be­gan their quest to de­throne Notre Dame as Women's Cham­pi­onship Di­vi­sion ti­tle-hold­ers with com­fort­able vic­to­ries.

Mag­no­lias trounced ri­vals Ven­tures 5-0 with Amie Olton, Gab­by Per­me­ll, Bri­an­na Govia and Abi­gail Dow­den all on tar­get as be­ing hand­ed a 1-0 lead via a 20th minute own goal.

And Check­ers won 2-0 over Malvern with na­tion­al for­ward Brit­tney Hingh on tar­get in the 55th minute af­ter a 47th minute own goal.
