Singh’s 51 helps Esmeralda upset Powergen

Gajanand Singh blasted 51 yesterday to lead Esmeralda into the quarterfinals of the T20 Premiership Division competition with a seven wicket upset win over Powergen at Esmeralda.


Esmeralda started the match in fifth place out of six teams in group B. To qualify as one of the top four teams, they needed to win their match and hope Diamond (fourth place) lost to Caldrac. 


Singh’s knock came off just 34 balls and included six fours and one six. He was ably supported by Anthony D’Andrade, who made an unbeaten 33 off 31 balls to lead Esmeralda to their target of 147/3 with almost three overs to spare. The pair shared in a 42 run third wicket partnership that helped them to victory. Dave Mohammed took 1/15 for Powergen.


Earlier, Powergen batsman Akeil Cooper made an unbeaten 63 off 40 balls to guide his team to a competitive 146/5. Cooper was supported by opening batsman Nicholas Sookdeosingh, who made 45. Diamond lost to Caldrac by five runs allowing Esmeralda to advance to the quarters.

AT HONEYMOON PARK: Merry Boys 112 (19.5 overs) (Aaron Alfred 24, Mervyn Dillon 4/14, Amir Khan 2/18) vs Moosai 115/1 (10.4 overs) (William Perkins 73 n.o). Moosai won by 9 wickets.


AT PIERRE ROAD: Alescon Comets 127/8 (20 overs) (Amir Khan 25) vs Bamboo 128/7 (18 overs) (Hospidales Singh 25 n.o., Deepak Kumar 21) Bamboo won by 3 wickets.




AT ESMERALDA: Powergen 146/5 (Nicholas Sookdeosingh 45, A. Cooper 63 n.o., Teshawn Castro 1/21) vs Esmeralda 147/3 (17.2 overs) (Gajanand Singh 51, Anthony D’Andrade 33 n.o., Dave Mohammed 1/15). Esmeralda won by 7 wickets.


AT GILBERT PARK: Caldrac 147/6 (Mark Deyal 26, Omesh Ramoutar 26, Shivan Narine 2/24) vs Diamond 142/7 (Emmanuel Lett 48, Brent Lezama 3/33). Caldrac won by 5 runs.


AT WILSON ROAD: FCB Clarke Road vs Wanderers - Clarke Road won by default
