T&T women in narrow loss to Northerns
Opening batsman Amanda Samaroo struck 95 on Tuesday, but it was not enough for the national women's cricket team as they lost by five runs in a 50-over match against Northerns in their tour of South Africa.
Batting first, Northerns captain Mignon du Preez followed up her unbeaten 79 on Suyb nday in a T20 against the national team with a brilliant knock of 121. Anne Steyn (27) and Marcia Letsoalo (26) also contributed to Northerns’ 216. Technocrats' Gaitri Seetahal took 2/27, while vice captain Shenelle Lord snatched 1/11.
In their run chase, the national team put up a good fight, but Samaroo's knock and captain Merissa Aguilleira's 27 could only get the team to 211 all out in 48 overs. Michelle Burt was the best bowler for Northerns, grabbing 3/36 in ten overs.
T&T’s next match will be against Gauteng today in a 50-over match.
