Centuries from Brian Pegus and Gabriel Blackwell yesterday led the South East Zone into a strong position at the end of day one against South West in the BGTT Under-19 InterZone at the Sancho St Julien Recreation Ground in New Grant.
Right-handed Pegus (114) and left-handed Blackwell (101) batted together for three hours in a 191-run second-wicket partnership. This partnership helped South East reach 218 before Blackwell fell. Stephan Seepersad (3/51) and Keron Ramlal (3/40) reduced the damage as South East were all out for 300.
In reply, Gervais Cummings' spell of 5/16 in six overs ensured the South West batsmen never got going. Cummings' right-arm medium pace and Pegus' two wickets for no runs in one over destroyed South West for 57 in their first innings. In their follow on, South West were struggling again when they closed the day on 34/3, still trailing by 209 runs. Cummings was at it again, grabbing 2/4.
In other matches, Central was in a tight battle with South, and North took a first innings lead against East. All matches continue today.
