The experienced Stacy-Ann King struck an unbeaten 50 yesterday to lead the national women's cricket team to a three-wicket win over an Invitational XI in a 50-over match on a cold, overcast day in Sinoville, South Africa.
Left-handed King, who made her debut for the West Indies Women's team in 2008, took T&T to their 218-run target with 14 balls to spare. Britney Cooper (40) and Selene O'Neil (31) also contributed to the successful run chase for the Shenelle Lord-led team. Lord was the captain for this match, as Merissa Aguilleira was rested. L Lee was the best bowler for the Invitational XI, taking 2/35 in nine overs.
Earlier, Lee made a brilliant 136 that guided her team to 217/8 in their 50 overs. The national team got the prized wicket of Mignon du Preez for only 27. Du Preez has been in excellent form recently, making 121 on Tuesday playing for Northerns in a five-run win over T&T. Alisa Mohammed (2/22) and Kamara Ragoobar (2/24) grabbed two wickets apiece.
Next on the agenda for the national team, is a 50-over match against Northerns tomorrow (Saturday), followed by two T20 matches against Northerns on Sunday.
