Five dif­fer­ent play­ers were on tar­get as de­fend­ing cham­pi­ons of the T&T Hock­ey Board Men's Cham­pi­onship Di­vi­sion bat­tled past host Par­adise 5-3 at the Dwight Yorke Sta­di­um, Train­ing Field, Ba­co­let, yes­ter­day.

For Petrotrin, which whipped Malvern 4-1 in its ti­tle-de­fence open­er on April 6, the na­tion­al quar­tet of At­i­ba Whit­ting­ton, Evan Far­rell, Tris­ton Grant and Dwain Quan Chan were all among the goals as well as Jonathan Williams while Arthur Patrick, Nave Roach and Ver­nell Rivers got Par­adise replies.

With the win, Petrotrin moved to max­i­mum six points from two match­es, the same as De­fence Force which leads the points ta­ble on goal-dif­fer­ence af­ter clob­ber­ing Coro­na Fa­ti­ma 6-0 in its open­er fol­lowed by a 5-1 whip­ping of Par­adise at Ba­co­let, a week ago.

Na­tion­al mid­field­er Mar­cus James scored a goal in each half for De­fence Force while Nicholas Wren, Mick­ell Pierre and Bri­an Bur­rows chipped in with the oth­ers for the "Teteron Stick­men" to can­cel out Dwayne John's lone re­ply for Par­adise.

Al­so at Ba­co­let, yes­ter­day, Har­vard Mar­itime Check­ers made it two wins from as many match­es to head the stand­ings, via a 3-1 de­feat of Par­adise in their Women's Cham­pi­onship Di­vi­sion en­counter.

Mindy Charles got the open­er for the vis­it­ing St James-based Check­ers af­ter which na­tion­al youth and se­nior team for­ward got the oth­er fol­lowed by an own-goal while Brandy Lei­th net­ted Par­adise's lone item. (NS)
