Former winners, DirecTV W Connection and North East Stars will meet in the Lucozade Sport Goal Shield final. The decider will unfold either on May 3 or 4 at a venue to be determined.
This after 2010 winner, Stars, defeated two-time beaten finalist Defence Force 5-4 on sudden-death penalties after an entertaining 1-1 draw in the first semifinal at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya while 2009 champion, W Connection, dumped defending champion, Neal & Massy Caledonia AIA 2-1 via brace from Joevin Jones in a very pedestrian-like contest.
For W Connection and Caledonia, it was a matter of cancelling out each other for most of the first-half, with the opener coming six minutes before the break when Jones left footed strike from outside the 18-yard box deflected off Caledonia defender Akeem Thomas, wrong footing Grenadian goalkeeper Shemel Louision, and into the back of the net.
Just before the break Caledonia almost pulled even but unlucking for the lively Akim Armstrong his goalward effort was deflected just over the bar.
On the resumption, Caledonia started brighter of both clubs and should have drawn level in the 54th minute when Armstrong whipped in a right sided cross for striker Keyon Edwards, who instead of putting his head to the ball, tried to guide in it with his boot, but it sailed wide.
However, with a minute Armstrong would take it up on himself to get his team level as he cooly collected a ball inside the area and with time and space, slotted the ball into the right hand corner of the goal with W Connection goalkeeper Alejandro Figueroa stuck to his line. With both teams playing at pedestrian pace, the chance were slow to come by, but in the 73rd minute Louision was forced into a save to deny a header by Andrei Pacheco off Kurt Frederick cross and six minutes later he watches on nervously as a fierce left footed free-kick frim Jones, skimmed off the head of a floored Aubrey David fully and just missed the right hand bottom corner of the post.
W Connection substitute Silvio Spann then unleashed a powerful free-kick from a distance which just missed the top left hand corner of the goal after beating Louision in flight.
But just as the teams looked to be heading for penalty-kicks Jones snatched a dramatic winner for W Connection, when he curled a left footed shot around two defenders and substitute goalkeeper Glenroy Samuel and into the far corner to spark off wild celebrations among his peers and technical staff.
The strike by Jones, came just seconds after Samuel who is known to be a good penalty-kicks stopper was introduced for Louision who had done a great job up to that point.
In the night's opener, Sangre Grande-based North East Stars attacker Elijah Manners welcomed a giveaway by Sean Narcis and raced into the area before letting off an attempt across goal in the 35th minute, which Kerry Baptiste slapped home at the back post.
However that wasn't enough for the Stars, playing without potent striker Cornell Glen who was rested because of a calf strain suffered in the 1-0 semi-final win over Central FC.
Defence Force winger Jemel Sebro, who missed out on a gifted opportunity just 12 minutes into the match off a Kevon Carter cross, returned the favour in the 51st minute for Carter, which the latter header past goalkeeper Cleon John to level the scores 1-1.
The "Teteron Boys" who were beaten by Stars in two of four pervious meetings this season had further chances with striker Devorn Jorsling hitting just wide in the 67th minute, and then Carter being denied by John five minutes later from the six yard line.
Defence Force substitute Josimar Belgrave was then denied by a Kaashif Thomas clearance in the 73rd minute while in the 86th Stars' Jamaican substitute Keithy Simpson was denied twice by goalkeeper Kevin Graham at point blank range before he rocked the cross bar with a header in the final minute to send the match to penalties.
Stars was first to kick with Elijah Manners and Kareem Moses both scoring while Defence Force's Richard Roy and Curtis Gonzales also netted. Simpspon then slammed Stars' third attempt against the crossbar while Rodell Elcock scored to put Defence Force ahead.
Stars then stayed in the match when Thomas scored while Belgrave then saw his weak effort parried away by John to leave both clubs level at 3-3 after four attempts each.
Handed the responsibility of his team's fifth attempt, the pint-size Hinkson came up big with a confident put away while Defence Force then captain Corey Rivers responded in similar fashion to send the match to sudden-death kicks, where former Puerto Rico Islanders midfielder Kevon Villaroel scored before his John easily kept out a tame Jemel Sebro right footer to send his team to another final this season after beating the same opponents in the Toyota Classic Cup final already this season, 4-2 on penalty-kicks win after a 2-2 draw following with John making two penalty saves.
