T&T Olympian Njisane Phillip once again grabbed the spot­light amongst the fastest rid­ers in the world, when the Team Siparia cap­tain dom­i­nat­ed on the fi­nal day of the Njisane Three-Day Cy­cling Fes­ti­val, which came to a close at Skin­ner Park, San Fer­nan­do, on Sun­day night.

Phillip, who yes­ter­day moved up four places in the UCI world sprint rank­ings (43rd to 39th), cap­tained his team, Siparia, to a bril­liant fin­ish at the in­au­gur­al com­pe­ti­tion, which opened at the Ari­ma Velo­drome, on Fri­day.

In ad­di­tion to his suc­cess­es on the first two days, Phillip cap­tured the men's in­ter­na­tion­al four-lap event, ahead of Rus­sia's Valentin Sav­it­skiy and Adam Ptac­nik, the world's 20th ranked sprint spe­cial­ist from the Czech Re­pub­lic. Fin­ish­ing in an im­pres­sive fourth spot was vet­er­an T&T Olympic rid­er Gene Samuel.

Phillip al­so fin­ished ahead of his team­mate Her­sony Canelon of Venezuela and coun­try­mate Kwe­si Browne, for sec­ond and third spot in the 10-lap event, re­spec­tive­ly, while Haseem McLean fin­ished fourth.

Span­ish in­ter­na­tion­als Al­bert Tor­res and David Muntan­er wrapped up a strong show­ing in the en­durance events, when they cap­tured the 25 and 40-lap races, re­spec­tive­ly. Tor­res paired with Briton Cal­lum Wat­son in seal­ing the men's madi­son 25-lap gold.

In-form T&T in­ter­na­tion­al Kwe­si Brown took a re­spectable run­ner-up fin­ish in the 40-lap race in a bril­liant fin­ish ahead of Adam Ptac­nik and Phillip. But, it was no sur­prise that Muntan­er, ranked num­ber 14 in the world 4km in­di­vid­ual pur­suit rank­ings, won the gru­elling race.

Among the women, Amer­i­can Shel­by Reynolds would cap­ture the women's in­ter­na­tion­al and se­nior 12-lap point­er. She fin­ished run­ner-up to Mex­i­co's Sofia Arreo­la in the 15-lap race, and third in the sev­en-lap which was won by Ol­ga Streltso­va (Rus­sia).

The event, which had an ini­tial bud­get of $3.5 mil­lion was de­scribed as one by man­age­ment to aide in boost­ing sport tourism in T&T. The in­ter­na­tion­al cy­clists were en­ter­tained by per­for­mances from So­ca artistes at the venue and en­joyed vis­its to To­ba­go and sev­er­al oth­er pop­u­lar tourist des­ti­na­tions across the sis­ter is­lands.
