North Eastern's Shyien Trancoso thrilled local fans at the Queen's Park Savannah, Port of Spain, Trinidad when he won the Atlantic National Primary Schools 3k Road Race, giving his District their second consecutive victory and leading home a superb 1-2-3 for the champions.
The Sangre Grande SDA student broke clear of his rivals coming down the Queen's Park East stretch and never looked back. Trancoso completed the course in the time of 10:54.
Running-mates Jonathan Shears and Israel Diaz chased home the winner. Shears attends Matelot RC and Diaz, Rampanalgas RC.
Garnet Antoine was Caroni's top placed finisher in fifth with Ronaldo Demming of Mayaro Government representing South Eastren Counties was fifth.
Fidel Lewis of Port of Spain was sixth with Ashmead Jones of St George East in seventh. Darrion Williams of Bethesda Gov't was the first finisher for Tobago.
In the girls category, the result was no different as twelve-year-old Aaliyah Mitchell romped to an impressive win in the time of 12:31.
The student from Jubilee Presbyterian had some twenty metres to spare the second placed Claudine Antoine who represented Caroni Education District.
The Las Lomas RC Girl athlete was another 15 metres ahead of third placed Ashakie Hagley of East St. George who hails from San Juan Girls Government.
North Eastern saw another of their athletes past the post fourth through Precious Balfour of Grovesnor Presbyterian who finished a metres ahead of Zakiya Williams of Port of Spain and Environs.
Tobago's best female finisher was Selena Ellis of Mason Hall Govt.
Last year, North Eastern took both titles and look likely to whip dethrone Port of Spain & Environs at the National Primary School Championship on May 22nd at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo.
The last time Port of Spain and Environs won the National 3K was 2011 when Hakeem Alexander and Shirley Stapleton both of St Dominic's RC were victorious.
North Eastern won the Champion District Trophy after placing 20 of the Top 50 Male Finishers and 10 of the Top 50 Female finishers.
The National Primary School 3K Road Race will be held in the South East Education District in 2011.
The event, which was first held in 1995, was staged in Port of Spain for only the third time. School Supervisor III–Taliba Ayodike, School Supervisor III–Jennylynne Cyrille and Atlantic's Manager Anil Seunath officially started the race at 10:15 am and 10:30am respectively.
Plaudits are in place for Public Relations Officer, Abeyola Akowe and her Port of Spain Education District for hosting a very efficient and effective Atlantic National 3K for the sponsors.
Attention will now shift to the National Primary School Track and Field Championships, which will be held on Wednesday 22nd May at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
Port-of-Spain and Environs are the reigning three time champions but they will be tested by two-times champion Tobago with North Eastern, East St George, St Patrick and Caroni all likely to go close if not win the championship.
