C&B United dethroned in Tobago 2 Day League

Published:

Sport Elite are the new Tobago Cricket Association 2 Day League Champions after securing first innings points against a weakened Club Crusoe over the weekend.

Needing 13 points to dethrone champions C&B United, Elite ended C&B’s 6 year reign as champions with a disciplined performance. Club Crusoe were asked to bat first on slow Shaw Park pitch after losing the toss. They cruised to 87 for 2 at lunch but crumbled to 162 all out before tea with a topscore of 87 from Jahred Persad. In pursuit of the target, half centuries from Jimel Boyce and Dejorn Charles, and other valuable contributions pushed Elite to 270 for 7 declared.

Crusoe in their 2nd innings came out with all guns blazing as Iraq Thomas smashed this season’s highest individual score of 177 off only 98 balls. He hit 14 boundaries and 14 sixes before the game was called off with Crusoe on 262 for 6. Meantime, at Canaan, Damian Ramsey proved difficult to dislodge as Georgia took first innings points against Airports Authority. Ramsey top scored in both Georgia’s innings with 84 and an even 100, his second of the season. The right handed allrounder also snatched 6 for 26 as Airports were dismissed for 139 in pursuit of 193 for first innings points.

And at Goodwood, there was confusion over who won first innings points as Goodwood are claiming victory, and Avengers are adamant the scores were level resulting in a tie on first innings. However, Goodwood who were without a scorer are claiming they have been cheated by the lone scorer for Avengers. Batting first, Goodwood playing with 3 players short were dismissed for 100. In reply, Avengers apparently fell 3 runs short according to Goodwood but according to the scorer Avengers were dismissed for 100. Glennon Sharpe snapped up 7 wickets for 34 runs. The weekend matches brought to an end the 2 Day league. The Carib sponsored 40 over tournament will continue his weekend after its launch last Thursday.
