Last year's treble trophy winner Real Dimension will kick off its campaign seeking a win against Malick City, when both clubs lock horns in the opening round of North East Stars-sponsored T&T Women's League Football (Wolf) Premier Division matches, at UWI Ground, St Augustine, from 4 pm today.
Dimension, one of T&T's most successful women's football clubs, captured the Premier Division title, the FA Trophy and the Big-Four competition last year. The club is among seven others to challenge the top tier division: Defence Force, Malick City, St Ann's Rangers, St Augustine SC, Step By Step, Tobago United, Trincity Nationals and the national Under-17 Team. Trincity Nationals and Defence Force will contest today's only other Premier Division match at the Eddie Hart Ground, Tacarigua, from 4 pm.
The national U-17s have been included in this year's competition in aid of their preparation for the Caribbean Football Union's (CFU) qualification for the Concacaf U-17 Championship, in August. Among the top players in the team is Shinelle Arjoon, a regular goalscorer who made the switch this year from her hometown club Debe All Stars. The top prize up for grabs in the Premier Division is $12,000, which will undoubtedly help in the team's preparation for the competition.
The Big-Four winner will take $10,000, with the runner-up, third and fourth-placed teams taking $6,000, $4,000 and $2,000, respectively. The First Division, comprising nine teams is split into two groups. Group A includes Tobago All Stars, Tunapuna Titans, UWI, Central FC, Malabar All Stars. In Group B are the Ministry of Sport (MOS) Schoolaz, Pt Fortin Pioneers and La Brea All Stars.
Only one First Division match will be played today when Tunapuna Titans takes on newly established women's team Central FC, at Constantine Park, Macoya, from 4 pm. A host of other matches will be played in the two divisions over the course of the weekend (see attached fixtures).
