Kyle Lee kept his nerve on Friday night to lead El Dorado East Secondary to their second consecutive Powergen Secondary Schools T20 title with a narrow two wicket win over Barrackpore West Secondary at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre. Barrackpore West won the toss and decided to bat first. Captain Keron Kanhai and Quane Ragoonanan laid a solid foundation for their team, getting to 34 without loss. However, Tevon Jadoo then dismissed both batsmen in quick succession, Kanhai for nine and Ragoonanan for 21.
Dillon Mohammed, who top-scored with 33, then steadied the ship. Mohammed shared in a 36 run third wicket partnership with Jeron Maniram (20), followed by a 41 run fourth wicket partnership with Brandon Jaggernauth (26). However, a middle and lower order collapse, limited Barrackpore to 138/8 in their 20 overs. Kareem Hamilton grabbed 3/16, while Jadoo finished with 2/18.In their run chase, national U-19 batsman Ewart Nicholson top-scored with 29, while Jamalee Johnson and Kyle Ramoutar both contributed 21. When Johnson and Ramoutar fell, it was the Kyle Lee show.
Lee came to the crease with the score on 113/5, still needing 26 runs to clinch the title. Lee kept his cool, making an unbeaten 21 off 14 balls to lead El Do home with only one ball remaining. Mohammed and Kanhai both finished with figures of 2/21.Earlier in the girls T20 final, Fyzabad Secondary got past Barrackpore East by five wickets. Batting first, Barrackpore was led by a brilliant unbeaten 46 from Shania Abdool that took the team to a competitive 144/8. Abdool was ably assisted by Sarada Mahadeo (30). Amanda John and Lilly Surajbally were the pick of the bowlers for Fyzabad, snatching 3/24 and 2/32 respectively. In reply, an excellent 61 run second wicket partnership between Karisa Ramkisson (38) and Isabella Levine (28) set up the win for Fyzabad.
