Maria Regina Grade School will start as favourites to capture a fourth straight lien on the title when the annual First Citizens Primary Schools Chess Championship takes place at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, today, from 9.30 am.
However, Maria Regina will have to withstand the challenges of fierce rivals, St Ursula's Girls Anglican and two-time winners Holy Name Preparatory (2005 & 2007) and Christian Primary Academy (2006 & 2008).
Other schools expected to give a good showing are Grant Memorial Presbyterian School, who were fourth last year on debut, Mucurapo Girls' RC and Kids Chess Academy of Tunapuna. The tournament is being organised by T&T Chess Academy and Promotions.
