HERSHEY–The season has culminated to this point, as the No 16 West Florida men's golf team which included T&T's Talin Rejendranath, is set to compete in the 2013 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships taking place at Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Philadephia, beginning today.
The Argonauts will vie for their third national championship all-time and return to the tournament for the first time since 2008, when they last won the title. This is the ninth appearance West Florida has made at Nationals. The tournament runs from until Friday. The format is three days of stroke play, 18 holes a day, before a cut is made following Wednesday's action.
Only the top eight teams advance from there, where they will battle in medal match play format. Unlike traditional match play where the match can end early because there are not enough holes left for the person losing to come back and win, each match will play out the full 18 holes in case the final results are needed for a tie breaker.
The quarterfinal and semifinal rounds of medal match play take place Thursday, with the championship round Friday. Rejendranath of San Fernando, who attended Naparima College, Argonauts' lineup will also include Gulf South Conference All-Tournament team members Juan Miguel Heredia and Spencer Olson .
