National twenty-year old golfer Joshua Galt has big dreams of making it to the prestigious PGA tour and is showing the potential to get there.Galt, who turned professional at the end of 2012, has been working hard to improve his game. In the upcoming months, Galt, who resided in Florida with his family from 2003 to 2012, has recently returned to Florida to participate on the mini tours of Florida. He plans to compete in the Minor League Golf Tour and the West Florida Golf Tour, where national golfer Stephen Ames got his start. Ames, has also acted as a mentor to Joshua over the years, supporting him in his golf career.
Galt, has been privileged to have experienced PGA Golf Professional Paul Celeno as his coach. Celeno, has 29 years experience as a golf professional and is the director of golf at some of the finest golf facilities in America. Galt also finds the time to teach the young golfers of T&T. For the last four months, he has worked for the TTIG Junior Program (T&T Institute of Golf) teaching youngsters about golf.Galt, who teaches children from as young as five, was pleased with the potential at the training clinic.
Galt has also been playing golf since the tender age of four. At age seven, he started playing competitive golf and won his first event, a nine hole event at St Andrews Golf Club against boys years older than him. Two years later at age nine, he represented T&T for the first time and then won the 12 and under age group at the Caribbean Championship in Bahamas a year later.He is aiming to be the second Trinbagonian to play on the PGA Tour, following in the footsteps of his mentor Stephen Ames.
