Middle of the table teams IPSL MX and Powergen locked horns in a Group B encounter on Thursday, as action continued in the Super Industrial Services Industrial Cricket League.Batting first, MX managed 59 runs from their ten overs with Rick Ramnarine and A Singh standing the anchors for the inning. Ramnarine came in at number three after openers Barry Lalchan and R Ali went cheaply, scoring 5 and 7 respectively. He batted sensibly for his inning high 18 runs, which included one four and one six, and was well supported by Singh who scored 13 not out. N Asgarali was Powergen's best bowler on the day claiming three wickets for just three runs with his vicious left arm off break bowling.
In their reply, Powergen faltered early and never recovered as no batsman was able to get in to double figures. Andrew York came close scoring 9 runs, which also included the lone boundary of the innings, but MX's precision bowling proved their undoing. Naz Mohammed and Ramnarine shared two wickets apiece as they bowled out Powergen for 40 runs claiming their second successive victory.
Over at the IPSL Ground, Nu Iron Unlimited forged an impressive victory over a struggling Phoenix Park Gas Processors team as they sought to move in to contention for a qualifying place into the quarterfinals. Akil Mohammed steered the way with an impressive knock of 33 runs that included four boundaries. Even though PPGPL was able to get most of the other batsmen out cheaply, Mohammed proved a thorn in their side and together with Steve Sulieman and Peter Squires, they led the iron men to an impressive 92 in their allotted 10 overs.Philip Jordan was the only batsman to offer some measure of resistance in PPGPL's reply. His knock of 12 included two fours and was instrumental in getting his team to 46 runs before they were all bowled out, still 46 runs short of their target. Nu Iron's victory will see them move up to fourth place in Group A and will next play Arcelor Mittal on May 23.
