The Carib Brew­ery-spon­sored Mid­sum­mer Clas­sic for three-year-olds to be run off at San­ta Rosa Park, Ari­ma, on May 31, will again have an in­ter­na­tion­al flavour about it.Jock­eys from Cana­da, Ja­maica, Bar­ba­dos and Venezuela will be seen in the sad­dle on Mid­sum­mer Clas­sic Day.Fea­ture event of the ten-race pro­gramme will be the Carib Brew­ery Lim­it­ed-spon­sored Mid­sum­mer Clas­sic to be run over 1900 me­tres with a purse of $450,000. The sup­port­ing "big race" is the $150,000 Carib San­ta Rosa Dash over 1,200 me­tres.

At the launch of the events at the brew­ery's Hos­pi­tal­i­ty Suite, Champs Fleurs, yes­ter­day, it was an­nounced that nine three-year-olds will go to post for the Clas­sic with the John O'Brien-trained War of Words seek­ing to win the triple crown af­ter tak­ing the East­er Guineas, the first leg of the 'Triple Crown.'Wilmer Galviz will be com­ing in to ride War of Words which was part­nered by Patrick Hus­bands in the Guineas. At yes­ter­day's draw for post po­si­tions, War of Words con­nec­tion pulled stall sev­en.O'Brien has a strong hand in the event and Guineas run­ner-up Pot of Gold will be re-unit­ed with for­mer cham­pi­on jock­ey Emile Ram­sam­my who comes in from Wood­bine in Cana­da. The tip must be tak­en se­ri­ous­ly.

The cham­pi­on train­er third en­trant is Chase The Drag­on which will be rid­den by Bri­an Boodram­s­ing and he will run from stall three next to sta­ble­mate Pot of Gold which is on his in­side. An­oth­er from the O'Brien quar­tet is last sea­son's top ju­ve­nile Prince Ze­shan which will again be rid­den by No­bel Abrego.He will race from stall six.Two Ja­maican bred bred hors­es have come in for the event and both have post­ed suc­cess­es at the cen­tralised venue. The duo are Good­will Boy and the Tac­ti­cian. The first men­tioned will be rid­den by Shane El­lis and the lat­ter by Alan Maragh.Mean­while, spon­sor­ship and events man­ag­er Col­in Mur­ray said there will be a Carib kiosk in cen­tre field this year and they will be cater­ing for over 1,000 pa­trons. Mur­ray said, "Carib day At The Races promis­es to be an­oth­er day of com­pet­i­tive horse rac­ing in trinidad and To­ba­go, with the stag­ing of the Carib Brew­ery Mid­sum­mer Clas­sic 2013."

We view Carib Brew­ery Day as an event to join with the Carib Brew­ery fam­i­ly for pre­mier horse rac­ing, fun and en­ter­tain­ment."This is the third year that Carib Brew­ery is spon­sor­ing the Mid­sum­mer Clas­sic, the sec­ond leg of the 'Triple Crown.'ARC Chief Ex­ec­u­tive Of­fi­cer Christo­pher Ar­mond gave the as­sur­ance that Carib guests will have no prob­lem with bet­ting fa­cil­i­ties.Sig­nal Alert was drawn in post po­si­tion six for the Clas­sic, while Sa­cred Trust drew pole po­si­tion two and Wild Ex­cite­ment stall five.
