The Carib Brewery-sponsored Midsummer Classic for three-year-olds to be run off at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, on May 31, will again have an international flavour about it.Jockeys from Canada, Jamaica, Barbados and Venezuela will be seen in the saddle on Midsummer Classic Day.Feature event of the ten-race programme will be the Carib Brewery Limited-sponsored Midsummer Classic to be run over 1900 metres with a purse of $450,000. The supporting "big race" is the $150,000 Carib Santa Rosa Dash over 1,200 metres.
At the launch of the events at the brewery's Hospitality Suite, Champs Fleurs, yesterday, it was announced that nine three-year-olds will go to post for the Classic with the John O'Brien-trained War of Words seeking to win the triple crown after taking the Easter Guineas, the first leg of the 'Triple Crown.'Wilmer Galviz will be coming in to ride War of Words which was partnered by Patrick Husbands in the Guineas. At yesterday's draw for post positions, War of Words connection pulled stall seven.O'Brien has a strong hand in the event and Guineas runner-up Pot of Gold will be re-united with former champion jockey Emile Ramsammy who comes in from Woodbine in Canada. The tip must be taken seriously.
The champion trainer third entrant is Chase The Dragon which will be ridden by Brian Boodramsing and he will run from stall three next to stablemate Pot of Gold which is on his inside. Another from the O'Brien quartet is last season's top juvenile Prince Zeshan which will again be ridden by Nobel Abrego.He will race from stall six.Two Jamaican bred bred horses have come in for the event and both have posted successes at the centralised venue. The duo are Goodwill Boy and the Tactician. The first mentioned will be ridden by Shane Ellis and the latter by Alan Maragh.Meanwhile, sponsorship and events manager Colin Murray said there will be a Carib kiosk in centre field this year and they will be catering for over 1,000 patrons. Murray said, "Carib day At The Races promises to be another day of competitive horse racing in trinidad and Tobago, with the staging of the Carib Brewery Midsummer Classic 2013."

We view Carib Brewery Day as an event to join with the Carib Brewery family for premier horse racing, fun and entertainment."This is the third year that Carib Brewery is sponsoring the Midsummer Classic, the second leg of the 'Triple Crown.'ARC Chief Executive Officer Christopher Armond gave the assurance that Carib guests will have no problem with betting facilities.Signal Alert was drawn in post position six for the Classic, while Sacred Trust drew pole position two and Wild Excitement stall five.
