Neal & Massy Caledonia AIA secured a spot in the 2013/2014 Concacaf Champions League main draw group competition after battling to a 2-2 draw with Jamaica's Portmore United in their Caribbean Football Union Club Championship third-place play-off second-leg match at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, on Wednesday night to advance 3-2 on aggregate.
The Morvant/Laventille club, reigning CFU Club title-holders, entered Wednesday's encounter with a 1-0 advantage following its win in the first-leg match on Monday.
The Jerry Moe-coached club took a 13th-minute lead through winger Nathan Lewis when he raced into Portmore's 18-yard box with the ball, but then took a heavy touch on the ball for what seemed an easy take by Foster, who unexplicably failed to collect.
The visitors equalised in the 61st minute when Williams capped off a solo run on goal by slipping a strike past Samuel and into the net to give his team hope.
But Portmore's joy was short-lived as midfielder Keyon Edwards restored Caledonia's lead in the 68th minute when he blasted the ball past Foster from inside the penalty area, three minutes after replacing Toussaint.
Portmore managed to get one back in the 74th when Andrew Vanzie unleashed a low strike from distance that beat Samuel on his near upright to set up an interesting final 15 minutes.
Despite holding the advantage with the score at 2-2, Caledonia did not ease up and pressed for the win but were denied by two saves from Foster in the 77th and 80th minutes.
With six minutes left, Portmore almost got another lifeline but luckily for Caledonia, Cuban referee Marco Brea Despaigne waived off an appeal by Williams for a penalty for what he felt was a foul on him by goalkeeper Samuel as the match whittled out into an entertaining 2-2 draw.
Caledonia now joins fellow T&T Pro League club DirecTV W Connection and Haiti's Valencia as qualifiers for the Concacaf Champions League group draw on June 3.
