Central spun their way into the semifinals of the BGTT Under-15 InterZone competition yesterday with a seven-wicket win over South, initiated by the destructive duo of Emilio Gopaul and Siba Batoosingh.
Resuming on their overnight 109/1 in their second innings, South lost their last nine wickets for only 42 runs, as they were skittled out for 151. Off-spinner Gopaul finished with 4/32, while the left-arm orthodox bowling of Batoosingh took 3/27. The in form Simmion Ramjattan could only add eight runs to his overnight 39. Ramjattan struck a match winning 64 last week against South-East.
Chasing 131 for victory, Batoosingh showed his talent with the bat as well. His unbeaten 64 guided Central to 131/3 in 33.5 overs. Christian Turton followed up his 65 not out in the first innings with 39. South still advanced to the semifinals behind Central in Group A.
In Group B, North and East advanced to the semifinals. Shoundell Letron's five-wicket haul (5/8) led North to a seven-wicket win over North-East, while Kristian Kallicharan had a brilliant all-round performance to lead East past Tobago by an innings and 38 runs.
