Malvern record­ed a much need­ed 2-0 win over host Par­adise in the T&T Hock­ey Board Women's Cham­pi­onship Di­vi­sion at the Dwight Yorke Sta­di­um train­ing field, Ba­co­let to stay in the hunt for a "Big-Four" spot.Vet­er­an play­er Mar­garet Hinds fired the Malver­nites in­to a sixth minute lead while Par­adise con­ced­ed an own goal in the 59th minute to hand the vis­i­tors their third win from six match­es for nine points, three be­hind de­fend­ing cham­pi­on Notre Dame while Paragon and Har­vard Mar­itime Check­ers are joint third with eight points each fol­lowed by Shandy Carib Mag­no­lias which faced Paragon last night.

In the Men's Cham­pi­onship Di­vi­sion, for­mer na­tion­al play­er An­tho­ny Mar­cano and his nephews Teague Mar­cano and Tariq Mar­cano were all on tar­get in Malvern's en­ter­tain­ing 4-3 win over Par­adise.Teague, Jack­son Mar­i­on and An­tho­ny scored in the ninth, 10th and 12th min­utes to put Malvern well on course for all three points, 3-0 ahead be­fore Desmond Archer pulled one back for Par­adise a minute lat­er to trail 3-1 while the vis­i­tors al­so con­ced­ed an own goal two min­utes from the half, for a 3-2 score.

Par­adise drew lev­el with Malvern in the 50th when Jarel Thomp­son found the back of the net as it seemed set for an un­like­ly vic­to­ry, which was dashed by Tariq's win­ner in the 59th.

It was the first win in sev­en match­es for Malvern to end the first round of the eight-team ta­ble with four points, while Par­adise stayed in cel­lar-spot with one.
