Matthew Marquez, Wan Joo Lee and Sachin Kumar, who helped T&T to a second-placed finish at last year's Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship, has been included in the 13-person squad to challenge this year's competition, which will take place in the Cayman Islands in July. The trio have been in fine form as of late and are expected, as with several other high-profile names in the team, to vie for top places.
The team also includes runner-up in the girl's 16-17 division last year, Christina Ferreira, along with the ever improving Ysabella Lawrence and Serena Mackenzie.Leading the team is coach Chris Richards, a former Caribbean Senior Amateur champion, who spoke of his confidence in the team's ability to challenge for the titles."We spent the first week collecting information on their strengths and weaknesses and now the players have an idea of where they need to improve and fast," said Richards.
"We're focusing on the short game and course management and I am confident that these kids will be ready to put in a serious challenge for the trophy this year."T&T Golf Association junior golf co-ordinator, Andre Collins, said the preparations had been going well but emphasised the need for continued corporate support."We have the support of a sport psychologist Nadine Sammy from SporTT (Sport Company of T&T) who has been doing a fantastic job as well."
