Carib Brew­ery Day At The Races is ex­pect­ed to sur­pass all oth­er spon­sored cards to­day at San­ta Rosa Park, Ari­ma, where the in­field will be used for Carib's spe­cial guests which num­ber over one thou­sand. The gala ten-race pro­gramme will see two Grad­ed events be­ing run off on the same card. The fea­ture will be the Grade One Carib Brew­ery Mid­sum­mer Clas­sic over 1900 me­tres on the main track. This is the sec­ond leg of lo­cal rac­ing's Triple Crown and on­ly the John O'Brien-trained War Of Words, win­ner of the NL­CB Guineas, has a chance of win­ning the Triple Crown.

The sec­ond grad­ed event will be the Grade Two - $150,000 purse Carib Beer San­ta Rosa Dash for three-year-old and over hors­es over 1200 me­tres which pits top sprint­ers, Sa­cred Trust and Sig­nal Alert, against the young guns like Crime of Pas­sion and Wild Ex­cite­ment.If the Mid­sum­mer Clas­sic was a pok­er game then cham­pi­on train­er John O'Brien would be hold­ing three aces in the nine-horse con­test with War Of Words, Pot Of Gold and Prince Ze­shan. His fourth en­trant Chase The Drag­on is a wild­card.One thing is cer­tain to­day, O'Brien will lead in the win­ner. The top con­di­tion­er has pre­pared his charges well and the go­ing will play a ma­jor role in which horse is es­cort­ed in­to the win­ner's en­clo­sure.

O'Brien has worked War Of Words and Pot Of Gold and they have both gal­loped su­perbly, with Pot of Gold go­ing slight­ly bet­ter on one oc­ca­sion. How­ev­er, all and sundry are aware that War of Words will run for­ev­er and the fur­ther they go the bet­ter he will run.O'Brien has made it clear since the Guineas that "the longer they go, the hard­er it will be to beat War Of Words." If they did not beat him in the Guineas, it will be tougher go­ing 2,000 me­tres in the Der­by.Last year's cham­pi­on ju­ve­nile Prince Ze­shan has im­proved dra­mat­i­cal­ly since his Guineas run and is ex­pect­ed to go close un­der No­bel Abrego. It re­mains to be seen if he can beat his sta­ble­mates on lev­el weights as a three-year-old.The Ja­maican duo of Good­will Boy and The Tac­ti­cian must have out­side shots but should not up­set the fore­cast. Good­will Boy and the Tac­ti­cian both beat de­cent hors­es last time out and could be in the hunt for mi­nor ho­n­ours.

The 1,900 me­tres event is a com­pet­i­tive af­fair and War of Words will not on­ly be seek­ing to con­tin­ue O'Brien's bid but al­so to win the $270,000 first prize for own­er An­tho­ny Wight. O'Brien will be seek­ing to land his first Triple Crown and fol­low in the foot­steps of Glenn Mendez has won the triple crown twice and has pro­duced six win­ners of to­day's Clas­sic: Car­ni­val Mes­si­ah, Top of The Class, Crown Point, God­spell, Just In Time and Touch D Road.In the Grade Two - San­ta Rosa Dash over 1,200 me­tres on the main track, the Jose William Sama­roo-trained Sa­cred Trust is tak­en to get the bet­ter of Sig­nal Alert which is not ful­ly wound up. How­ev­er, three-year-old Crime of Pas­sion and Wild Ex­cite­ment could give the old­er hors­es a scare should they fall short. Post time is 11.30 am.
