Proman continues winning ways in SIS cricket

Third place IPSL MX took on fifth place Proman as Group B action continued in the SIS Industrial Cricket League on Monday. MX Challengers struggled to 44 for 7 in their allotted ten overs with the only significant contribution coming from Vince Morali who made 11, which included the lone six of the innings.

MX’s usually reliable batting misfired early on after losing both openers with just eight runs to their name. Morali mounted a small comeback with his cameo innings but after his wicket fell with the score 24 the rest of the batting capitulated. Although they bowled well, Proman gave away 13 extras which allowed MX to get up to a defendable total. Wilton Vincent was the pick of the bowlers ending his two over spell with 2/7 while Trevor Harrypersad and M Ramsurat also picked up two wickets apiece. MX gained some much needed confidence early on in Proman’s reply after Miguel Pustam had opener Wilton Vincent caught for just three with the score on five in the second over. However, Randy Ramoutar played a very sensible innings and stood the anchor for his team on the day.

The powerful left hander scored a match winning 25 runs that included one four and two sixes even as wickets fell around him. Ramoutar took 16 runs off Naz Mohammed in the fifth over that advanced his team from a shaky 18 for two to a comfortable 34 for two. Pustam would strike again though as he had Ramoutar caught with the score on 38 in the seventh over but by then it was almost over. Proman got the winning runs with four balls to spare as they came away with a very crucial victory that now sees them tied on points with fourth place NGC who holds a superior net run rate.

With just one game to go in the group stage, Proman now needs a victory and some assistance from NGC’s next two opponents if they are to advance to the quarterfinals. MX remains in third place as they prepare to face a strong PCS Nitrogen team in their final fixture on Thursday.
