Bangladesh Grand Master Al-Haj Abdus Sobhan will be the chief arbitrator at the Caribbean Taste of China All Styles Martial Arts Open Championships and Chinese Acrobat Show on Sunday at the Chaguanas Indoor Facility, Saith Park from 11 am.
Participants at this event will compete in various categories, including self defence, full contact fighting, capoeira, traditional kata and kick boxing. Individuals from as young as six years old will compete for trophies, medals, hampers, free trips to Tobago and $1,000 will be given away to the best full contact fighter.
Persons interested in taking part can register for $150, while spectators pay $30. Chinese-style dishes will be on sale at the venue.
Also present at the event will be China's number one Lion Dance group, the Guan Dong Kung Fu Association, performing Chinese Acrobats. The lion dance is a form of traditional Chinese dance where performers mimic a lion in a lion costume.
This event will be made possible by Khabir's Tai Chi Institute, the Wushu Association and the Chinese Arts and Culture Studies Society. Children of orphanage homes throughout Trinidad will attend the Martial Arts Open free of charge and will be provided with a meal.
The Tai Chi Institute has been involved with the National School Childrens' Programme in T&T for many years. The Tai Chi institute has also conducted classes at St Jude home for Girls, St Michael's School for Boys and St Mary's Home for Children.
