Nu Iron Unlimited took on T&TEC on Friday in a must win encounter with a place in the quarterfinals at stake in the SIS Industrial Cricket League.
Having been undefeated to date, T&TEC were already assured a place in the knockouts but knew that Nu Iron would be going all out in their final group fixture. It was a dream start for Nu Iron. After after losing the toss and being asked to bowl first against a T&TEC batting lineup that has scored several tons in the league, Nu Iron had the defending champs reeling at three for ten in the third over. Kevin Mohammed had the early breakthrough when he had Arnold Ram caught for two and soon after Riad Adams went caught for five runs. Captain Devindra Kangal mounted a small comeback and took the score to twenty four before he was bowled by eventual man of the match, Jason Samuel, he top scored nine. T&TEC never recovered and were eventually bowled out for forty runs in 9.1 overs.
Although they were chasing a small total, Nu Iron knew that the electricity men's dangerous bowling was not to be taken lightly. They got to twelve before Akeef Mohammed was caught off the bowling of Kris Jacob and Jason Samuel soon followed for eight with the score on sixteen. Jagdith Siew and Sheldon Cumberbatch put on a small fifteen run partnership that took the score to thirty one before Siew fell to Devindra Kangal for six.
Cumberbatch went on to top score with eleven runs and by the time his wicket fell with the score on thirty nine, Nu Iron could taste victory and they eventually got to their target with three balls to spare as the Iron Men toppled the mighty T&TEC in spectacular fashion. Nu Iron have now solidified their qualification spot in the knockout round which his scheduled to bowl off on Wednesday.
Over at the IPSL Ground, Super Industrial Services managed a comfortable nine wicket victory over Powergen (Point Lisas).
Powergen, who were unable to qualify to the quarterfinals, chose to bat first and struggled early on. With just twelve runs to their name by the third over, they already had three batsmen back in stands as SIS bowled well early on. S. Jagmohan was the main destroyer early on claiming two of the three wickets with his medium pace bowling.
