Uni­ver­si­ty of Flori­da swim­mer, Chris­t­ian Homer and Mc Leod broth­ers, Joshua and Abra­ham, will spear­head T&T's medal hopes at the Cen­tral Amer­i­can and Caribbean Am­a­teur Swim­ming Con­fed­er­a­tion (CC­CAN) Cham­pi­onships sched­uled for San Jose, Cos­ta Ri­ca from June 29 to Ju­ly 9.

Two years ago in Mayaguez, Puer­to Ri­co, T&T led by Joshua Mc Leod cap­tured six gold medals, five from USA-based Dy­lan Carter, in­clu­sive of three records, three from Joshua Ro­many and two apiece from Kim­ber­lee John-Williams and Kristien Julien for a record 22 gold medals in their 51 medal haul (19 sil­ver and 10 bronze).

How­ell Napoleon and the 15-17 boys 400 me­tre freestyle re­lay team as well as the 18 & Over boys 400m freestyle and med­ley quar­tets al­so got gold for T&T which end­ed with 622 points for third place, be­hind host Puer­to Ri­co (1029.5 pts) and Mex­i­co (997.5)

For the team in San Jose, which serves as a qual­i­fi­er to the World Cham­pi­onships, Homer, a ju­nior Olympic gold medal­list and World Se­nior Swim­ming Cham­pi­onship qual­i­fiers Joshua and Abra­ham will have as team-mates Caryle Blondell, Cadell Lyons, Cherelle Thomp­son, Saman­tha Ra­hael, Jabari Bap­tiste, Jeron O'Brien, Julien, Ami­ra Pil­grim, Ja­da Chai, Jew­el Mul­rain and Ariel Cape

How­ev­er, T&T chances of an­oth­er top three fin­ish and over­haul­ing their best ever medal tal­ly of 54 (2009) was sev­er­ly dent­ed with the with­draw­al of a num­ber of over­seas-based swim­mers head­ed by David Nadadores swim­mer and the Uni­ver­si­ty of South­ern Cal­i­for­nia bound-Carter and Ro­many.

Carter, re­cent­ly par­tic­i­pat­ed at the San­ta Clara Grand Prix where he sat a new record in the 200m but­ter­fly in 2:09.44, a new na­tion­al mark in the 15-17 boys age-group and is a qual­i­fi­er for Au­gust World Ju­nior Cham­pi­onship in Dubai.

Oth­ers, who have asked to be ex­cused, in­clude Flori­da-based Ty­la Mar­tin af­ter qual­i­fy­ing for Dubai, Han­nah Chat­field (Eng­land), Alexan­dra Don­ahue, Re­bec­ca Mar­shall (Eng­land), Adri­an Goin (Cana­da), Emiro Goossen (USA) and Mar­lins' Jonathan Ramkissoon, who is al­so Dubai-bound.

T&T will al­so be rep­re­sent­ed by a boys and girls Open Wa­ter teams as well as Un­der-17 girls and boys and boys Open wa­ter po­lo teams.
