Top 300 world ranked professional Colin Ramasra captured the Men's Open crown, his seventh in total, at the National Senior Squash Championships when he defeated a player a decade his junior, Mandela Patrick in the final, at the Cascadia Squash Courts, St Ann's, on Saturday.
It was a good effort from the multiple national junior champion, Patrick, but it was insufficient as Ramasra went on to win the match virtually untroubled, 11/5, 11/9, 11/5.
On the final day, Patrick's younger brother, Nku Patrick also made it to the third-place play-off but lost the match to Guyanese player Julian Chin, 12/10, 6/11, 11/9, 11/4. Patrick (Nku), reaching the semifinal stage was unable to cross the hurdle where he met and lost to Ramasra, in what would have always been an uphill task.
The men's plate final was won by Brandon De Montrichard, who sealed an easy win over Adam Da Costa, 11/5, 11/1, 11/8.
In the women's segment, record holding national champion, Rhea Khan secured her 18th title, when she played another multiple junior title holder Faith Gillezeau in the final. Khan won the match 11/2, 11/9, 11/3. Third place went to Nakita Poon Kong who defeated reigning national under-19 champion Talia Abdool, while Angelique Jackson took the Plate title with an easy 11/2, 11/8, 11/5 victory over Stephanie Sobrien. Khan reached to the Open final after defeating Poon Kon in the semifinal, while Gillezeau
The Veteran's division was hotly contested, with Peter Pirtheesingh rolling back the years to drop Roger Salandy, 11/8, 6/11, 11/5, 7/11, 11/8.
