Ply­mouth, in its first fix­ture this sea­son, out­foxed neigh­bours Whim 54-51 in the Hoop of Life Bas­ket­ball League, To­ba­go Sec­tor One en­counter, on Sat­ur­day.Jer­ron Gilman paved the way for the Ply­mouth team with a match-high 16 points de­spite the best ef­forts put on by the Vin­cent clan (De­von Vin­cent, 15 points; Kysi­ah Vin­cent, 13 points and Kur­syl Vin­cent 11 points) for Whim, who sunk a com­bined to­tal of 39 points.The ini­tial min­utes of the en­counter gave Whim the im­pres­sion that the match would be an easy one for them to chalk up a first vic­to­ry, es­pe­cial­ly as it had fin­ished the first quar­ter lead­ing Ply­mouth by three points (11-8).

How­ev­er, Ply­mouth re­versed the tide in the sec­ond quar­ter as coach Dereck Hamil­ton's team came out with more ag­gres­sion, outscor­ing the op­po­nents 19-12 for a 27-23 ad­van­tage at the half.

In the sec­ond half, Whim con­tin­ued a strong bat­tle but Ply­mouth was able to hold on to a six-point lead at the third-quar­ter buzzer, thanks in part to six points from Col­ston Moses' dur­ing the pe­ri­od. Moses had ten points for the game.In the fi­nal stan­za, Whim again car­ried the fight to the win­ning team, but Ply­mouth was able to hold off the de­ter­mined Whim play­ers to win by three points. It was the sec­ond loss in as many match­es for Whim since the start of the league's sec­ond edi­tion.In oth­er fix­tures in To­ba­go, Rox­bor­ough, Mo­ri­ah and Canaan/Bon Ac­cord se­cured wins. In North Sec­tor One, Beetham dropped Bel­mont 79-62, while Fyz­abad edged Pe­nal 61-59 in the lone South Sec­tor One con­test.

Mean­while, Care­nage opened North Sec­tor Two in the Hoop of Life Bas­ket­ball League on Mon­day evening, with a 43-40 win over Pe­tit Val­ley, in the sec­ond low­est tal­ly in the sec­ond edi­tion of the com­pe­ti­tion.At the end of the first pe­ri­od, Pe­tit Val­ley took charge de­spite an un­flat­ter­ing score­line at 11-7.And, al­though Care­nage nar­rowed the deficit from six points to two, the team was on­ly able to score a to­tal of 16 points in 20 min­utes.Pe­tit Val­ley was just as poor on of­fense, scor­ing 18 points in the same pe­ri­od of time.Care­nage's coach Ter­ry Dil­lon plead­ed and yelled and was some­what able to get the West­ern boys to hold on to a tie at the end of the third quar­ter, which read 30 points a piece. Af­ter a full 40 min­utes of bas­ket­ball, the match end­ed with Care­nage adding 13 more points to Pe­tit Val­ley's ten.
