Kirstann Kallicharan will lead T&T's Under-15 team in their quest for the West Indies Cricket Board Regional Under-15 title when they face the Windward Islands at Treasure Beach, Jamaica, in today's opening match.
The round robin tournament will see hosts Jamaica battle against T&T, Windward Islands, Leeward Islands, Guyana and defending champions Barbados in the two-week long competition (July 12-26).
The matches will be played over two days. In the first innings, teams will bat for two-and-a-half hours, during which a minimum of 37 overs must be bowled. The amount of time remaining in the match will determine the number of overs each team faces in the second innings. The team that scores more runs over the two innings will win the match. Also, no fast or medium pace bowler will be allowed to bowl more than six overs in one spell. After they complete that spell, they must rest for a mandatory period of 40 minutes before resuming bowling.
The team, led by trainer Gerald Garcia, has been focusing a lot on strength and conditioning.
Coach Glen Dwarika believes fitness will be the key to victory. T&T will play five two-day matches in a 15-day period, with the team only getting one day off in between some matches. Manager Anthony Ramjit, has also outlined a strong batting line up and varied bowling attack as T&T's strength.
In other round one matches today, Jamaica will tackle Barbados at St Elizabeth Technical and Guyana will play the Leeward Islands at ALPART.
