Westside Superstarz replicated its one-sided season opening victory when it secured a second consecutive win by the same 3-0, this time at the expense of newly-promoted Bethel United, when action continued in the Blink/bMobile National Super League (NSL), at St Anthony's College Ground, on Sunday.
Westside was the only team to secure back-to-back wins, which meant it ended the weekend as league leader after two match days.
Closing off the win was former St Anthony's midfielder Qian Grosvenor, who scored one goal on the evening and his third in two matches. Grosvenor's 71st minute item followed a first-half double by last year's Queen's Royal College top-scoring forward Akil Morris. Despite a promising start, Bethel will need to wait at least until next Sunday to find its first win of the season. The club, in its inaugural NSL match last weekend held giants Joe Public to a goalless draw.
Ironically, WASA FC and Joe Public, which won the league in the past two seasons respectively, both failed to register a win after two matches. The two clubs met at Joe Public's fortress, the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, with the match ending in a goalless stalemate. While Joe Public is on consecutive draws, WASA, the reigning champion, is on a loss and a draw after two matches.
Two other fixtures produced a total of 13 goals. Both teams finished with 10 players when Club Sando's meeting with Malabar FC ended in a 3-3 draw. Gorian Highley, the scorer of Malabar's first goal was sent off simultaneously with Thomas O'Neil in the 86th minute, after the former retaliated to a challenge by the latter. Guaya United, one of the three newly-promoted teams, meanwhile, followed up from last weekend's draw with a win over Tobago's Stokely Vale, despite the latter pulling three goals back after Guaya found itself 4-0 up.
Santa Rosa was on a bye for the weekend, while 1976 FC Phoenix's clash with Real Maracas was postponed to September 24.
