Brij Parasnath, regional commentator and journalist, called upon the T&T Under 19 cricketers to adopt a positive attitude and fighting spirit to battle to the very end until success is achieved.
Speaking to the T&T national under 19 team players after their final physical fitness preparation session at the National Cricket Centre, Balmain, Couva on Monday afternoon; Parasnath urged the players "to remain focussed on what is happening on the field of play and to fight to the very end until success is achieved."
"Every member must support and celebrate one another success. It is important to celebrate each other's milestones but always concentrate on the team's goals. Batsmen have to be conscious of their respective roles; even the number ten or number eleven batsmen would sometimes be called upon to bring home the victory and must be ready to respond to those challenges. They must believe in themselves that they can get the job done. With that type of attitude, the team will be victorious."
Parasnath also pointed out that the most successful fast bowlers are not the fastest ones but those who had better control and utilise clever variations of pace and swing compared to genuinely express fast bowlers. He mentioned many world class players and stressed that: "When you look back at the careers of bowlers like Australia's Glenn McGrath, South Africa's Shaun Pollock, Sri Lanka's Chaminda Vaas and our own West Indian stalwarts Malcolm Marshall, Joel Garner and Curtly Ambrose; they who were not faster than their teammates or counterparts, but were deadly accurate and successful despite the conditions. At times, there were virtually unplayable because of their nagging accuracy and ability to deceive their opponents with variations of swing and subtle change of pace. As players aspiring to do well at this level and to play for your senior teams and West Indies teams, you need to study videos of the great players and learn from them."
The respected commentator suggested that every player should strive to attain outstanding performances so as the get the nod of the West Indies selectors who will be selecting players for the West Indies youth team to participate in the World Under-19 Youth Cup.
Parasnath also took the opportunity to present all members of the T&T Under 19 team with copies of the Cricket Records 2013 Magazine .
T&T's national Under 19 is led by Vikash Mohan who was at the helm last year. Solozano is the vice-captain while former national pacer Kelvin Williams is the team's coach. The squad departed yesterday for St Kitts while the two-innings competition starts tomorrow.
