Hernandez leads Board XI to victory over U-19s
A top-score of 26 from Katrice Hernandez on Thursday afternoon, led the T&T Under-19 Board XI to a 20-run win over the National Under-19 team in round one of the Invitational Regional 19 and Under T20 tournament at the National Cricket Centre in Couva. Batting first in a rain affected 10-over match, the Board XI was led to a competitive 59/5 behind Hernandez’s knock. Kamara Ragoobar, who toured South Africa in April with the senior team, snatched 2/10.
In reply, two wickets each from Karishma Ramharack (2/7) and Tramaine Edwards (2/8) led to the demise of the national team. The national team were dismissed for a paltry 39 off the final delivery of the match. The national squad will try to bounce back today when they face St Lucia at 9:30 am and Barbados at 2:30 pm. In another match played simultaneously on Thursday, an all-round performance by La Toya Smith led Guyana to a comfortable five-wicket win over St Lucia at the Caldrac Ground. In this 15-over contest, St Lucia posted 63/5 batting first.
Narissa Carston (13) and Pauline Francis (12) both made contributions for St Lucia. Mandy Mungru grabbed two wickets, while Smith took one to reduce St Lucia’s total. In their run chase, Smith was also among the runs, scoring 22 to guide Guyana to their target with nine balls to spare. Smith was ably supported by Lashana Toussaint, who struck an unbeaten 14. Nicole St Prix did her part to limit Guyana, taking 2/6, but it was not enough. The Board XI/St Lucia encounter and the Barbados/Guyana clash, which were both carded for Thursday morning, were abandoned due to the inclement weather.
