Chasing a challenging 164 to win yesterday, many would have betted against the national under 15 team, but captain Kirstan Kallicharan put his team on his shoulders and guided his team to a three-wicket win over Guyana in round four of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional Under-15 tournament in Jamaica.Right-handed Kallicharan, who was dismissed for a duck in the first innings, rose to the occassion scoring 63 to propel T&T to 164/7. With the win T&T maintained their position on top of the standings with one round left. Kallicharan was ably supported by vice captain Saiba Batoosingh and opening batsman Keagan Simmons, who made 23 and 22 respectively.
Earlier, Guyana resumed the day on 69/4 with an overall lead of 81 runs. Despite 6/50 by spin bowler Emilo Gopaul, the middle and lower order added a further 82 runs as Guyana closed their second innings on 151/9, with an overall lead of 163. T&T will face hosts Jamaica in their final match tomorrow and Friday at the Manchester High School Ground.Over in St Kitts in the WICB Under-19 Regional tournament, Camillo Carimbocas topscored with 45 while Brian Christmas and Andy Gobin each made 33 as T&T was bowled out for 194 on the first day of its match against Guyana yesterday. In reply, Guyana were 27 without loss midway through the third session.
