Solozano slams unbeaten century in T&T victory
Left-handed Jeremy Solozano slammed an unbeaten 139 yesterday as the national under-19 team stormed to a 167-run win over the ICC Americas in round five to stay alive for the crown in the West Indies Cricket Board Regional Under-19 50-over tournament in St Kitts. T&T won the toss and decided to bat first at EGSC Molineaux. Behind Solozano’s marathon knock, T&T posted a massive 269/5. Solozano’s innings included ten fours and seven sixes. Brandon Ramdial, who top-scored for T&T with 35 in round one against Barbados, scored 47. Abraash khan was the best bowler, taking 2/48.
In reply, Solozano showed his all-round ability, running out two batsmen as the Americas were reduced to 43/3 after 17 overs. The middle and lower order of the Americas failed to recover, as they were bundled out for 102 in 37.4 overs. Spin bowler Jesse Bootan was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3/22. He was ably supported by Justin Joseph (2/16) and Bryan Charles (2/17), who both grabbed two wickets.
Second placed T&T are still in the hunt for the title, winning four of their five matches. Leaders Jamaica, are undefeated through the first five rounds. Jamaica won their round five match yesterday, after their round four bye and victories through rounds one to three. T&T will face the Windward Islands in round six tomorrow, needing a win to keep their chances alive. T&T will have a bye in the seventh and final round.
