Frank closes in on U-10 singles title
Kaela Frank is one match away from retaining her RBC Royal Bank Tobago Junior girls Under-10 singles title at the annual tournament which is taking place at the Shaw Park Hard Courts. In the finals set for today, Frank will play Nicolette Orr.
The two advanced to the title decider after topping the round-robin competition earlier in the week. Frank played unbeaten winning all four matches while Orr's lone defeat was to Frank. The title match will be the first of the week-long tournament which enters its penultimate day.
In the boys U-10 singles competition, Kyle Kerry emerged as the top seed of the round-robin while Johnny Su is the second seed.
Kerry will face Jacques Noreiga the first semifinals today. Noreiga advanced to the semifinals after beating Vaughn Antoine 6-0 yesterday. Su will do battle with Ebolum Nwokolo who got past Shae Millington 6-1. The finals will also be contested later today.
Dajohnique Delancy will face Sherisse Arjoon for the girls U-18 singles crown. In the semifinals, Delancy got past Vikisha Jelly
6-2, 6-2 while Arjoon edged
Joulize Leander in three sets 2-6, 6-3, 10-8.
In doubles action, boys and girls are playing together in the U-10 division. Orr and Isabel Abraham advanced to the semifinal getting past the pair of Syam Machakanti and Nicholas Ready 6-1. The winning pair will do battle with Kyle Kerry and Ebolum Nwokolo.
The duo of Millington and Alijah Leslie also booked a spot in the second round after beating Vaughn Antoine and Jelani Lewis 6-1. Millington and Leslie with play Noreiga and Su for a place in the title match.
Liu Chin and Samir Elattway will face Andrae Crawford and Zarek Joefield for a spot in the final of the boys U-14 competition. Crawford and Joefield whipped Jordan Steele and Daniel Attzs 6-2, 6-4 to reach the semifinals.
Benjamin Rochford and Monim Ross are also in the semifinals after beating Donte Duncan and Frank Lawrence 6-0, 6-3 and will face Michael Ramdial and Rahsaan, who were on a bye.
Kaela and Esther Frank will seek to overcome Daynelle Des Vignes and Celeste Steele for a spot in the girls U-14 double finals. Cheyenne Chin Choy and Osenyonye Nwokolo will do battle against Dianne Guy and Maya London in the other semi.
Greig brothers Jualon and Juanaldo are into the semifinals of the boys U-18 doubles beating Jonathan Edwards and Samuel Cook 6-2, 6-3 in the last match yesterday.
The Greigs will have to defeat Che Andrews and Che Sanchez to get in the finals while Keshan Moonasar and Ibrahim Mohammed will come against Jabari Lews and Gianluc Robinson in the other semifinals.
Play begins at 9.30 am. The tournament ends tomorrow.
