The national U-19 pair of Jeremy Solozano and Bryan Charles have been included in the West Indies 17-man squad to face Bangladesh in Guyana, following their excellent performances in the West Indies Cricket Board Regional Under 19 three-day tournament.The West Indies U-19 team will play seven 50-over matches from October 7 to 21. Solozano, a left-handed opening batsman, scored 334 runs at an average of 41.57, that led T&T to a second place finish behind Jamaica. Off-break bowler Charles, who is currently in Barbados participating in the Saqlain Mushtaq spin bowling clinic, finished the three-day competition with 29 wickets at an average of 13.59 runs. Off-break bowler Charles, was among 15 cricketers selected for the three-week clinic to improve their spin bowling.
Solozano's coach at Hillview College, Richard Kelly was happy about his selection and believes Solozano's attitude is what has taken him this far. "There was never a problem with Jeremy, he has always worked hard and displayed good work ethics." Solozano, who has represented Hillview's first team for the past three years has great support. Kelly spoke highly of Jeremy's father Michael Solozano, who has always been there giving him that extra push.
Lalman Kowlessar, Charles' former coach at Presentation College, Chaguanas was pleased with his selection. "I am definitely happy and the entire school is elated for him." he said. Kowlessar also said that Charles is continuing Presentation's rich history of West Indian cricketers. "We have always produced good cricketers." Adrian Barath, Ravi Rampaul and T&T captain Denesh Ramdin all attended Presentation College, Chaguanas.Talented wicketkeeper/batsman Nicholas Pooran, may join the West Indies U-19 team if he becomes available. Pooran is part of the T&T Red Force team that will play in the Karbonn Champions League in India from September 21 to October 6.
