Queen’s Park cricketer Daron Cruickshank, had an excellent all-round debut season playing for Rainford CC in the first division of the Liverpool and District cricket competition in England.

Right-handed Cruickshank ended the league competition with 876 runs, at an average of 66 runs which included two fifties and four hundreds. His highest scores were 206 against Colwyn Bay and 141 not out against Northop Hall.

He also destroyed many batting cards with his medium pace, finishing with 40 wickets at an average of 21. On July 6, he took his best figures, grabbing 6/27 against Northop. Rainford finished fifth in the 12-team league competition and got to the quarterfinals of the cup competition.

Cruickshank, the only West Indian on the team, spent four and a half months in England and adapted to the conditions quickly as he has become a seasoned campaigner. “It was chilly, but I am used to it, because it was my seventh time in England,” he stated.

The QPCC all-rounder also said that preparing for a match in England was different to Trinidad. “As a pro, they expect you to do the bulk of the work and the practices are not as intense in England.”

He went on to say that the coaches are not always present at practice sessions, therefore the players have to be disciplined and practice on their own. Cruickshank and his teammates would practice twice per week, for two and a half hours per session.
