Red Force looks to conquer Titans
Teenager Nicholas Pooran who came to the Karbonn Smart Champions League T20 tournament with much expectations has failed to deliver and may find himself warming the dugout today, when T&T plays their all important clash against the Titans of South Africa.
The Red Force finds themselves in a very difficult position of having to win the next two preliminary round matches in Group B to make it to the semi-finals. They have Titans to contend with today and Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday.
Pooran has not enjoyed this tournament so far and there is the high possibility that he will be sidelined. There are two scenarios concerning the Pooran axing. The selectors may bring in the young all rounder Yannick Ottley in the side, which will also sure up the bowling department, or they may go for Adrian Barath and bat Simmons at number three.
Whatever the final eleven is, they will have to play out of their skins to win this one, as the Titans are very confident coming off a win against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last game. The Titans with ace South African player AB de Villiers on board have eight points from their three matches, while T&T has four from two matches.
Yesterday, the venue looked in good condition and the T&T players had an extensive work out at Ground 'C' at the Sardar Patel Stadium. With the weather affecting T&T's preparation over the last few days, they used this opportunity to get to touch on all areas. Skipper Denesh Ramdin could not attend the pre-match press conference because he opted for the extra time in the nets and he was replaced by manager Omar Khan.
Khan said the team is happy to be out in the sunshine and will be looking to win four matches to take the title. “As we are seeing it, we have found ourselves in a position where every match is a final from here onwards and we are approaching it in that way.”
Khan said a decision on the final eleven has not been made just yet. “We have not been able to view the pitch because it has been covered since we arrived here but after training today the boys would come up and have a look at it. We will then use our collective knowledge to assess the condition of the pitch and then a decision will be made at the final team meeting tonight. Also joining us for that meeting will be Brian Lara and he is expected to have his say on the matter as well.”
Khan ended by saying that the fact that Titans have defeated Sunrisers is not a worry for his team. “We cannot look at who they defeated, we have to come up with strategies to get past them. We know the Titans are a very good team and have some world class players and at this point all that is in our thoughts in the match tomorrow.”
The game gets off at 4pm and will be followed by the dead rubber between Chennai Super Kings and the Brisbane Heat.
