Bello edges to victory in 120 km Tobago race
American Calixto Bello escaped with the narrowest of wins yesterday in the Division One International Open 120 km race at the Buccoo/Shirvan/Carnbee Circuit as the Tobago Cycling Classic pedalled off. Bello, representing Team Cocos, finished a mere .19 seconds ahead of Team NSP (Germany) cyclist Jonas Schmeiser in the ten-lap stage one race. Bello stopped the clock in two hours 32 minutes 43.46 seconds. Rounding off the top three was Ryan Mullen of UCI Continental Team IG-Sigma Sport (UK) in 2:34.37.
Unfortunately no T&T cyclist finished in the top ten of Division One. However, Ronald Moses of T&T’s Team Slipstream took home the top prize in Division Two. Moses won the five-lap event in 1:26.20. Today stage two will be contested at 8.30 am at the Mt Irvine, Les Coteaux, Arnos Vale circuit. Division One cyclists will attempt 100km, while the Division Two competitors will battle a 50 km course.
